Juniper Highlands Ethiopia

Ethiopia Chelchele – Shitaye Abebe (Natural Process) Specialty Score: 92.8 Sold in ½ lb bags – Small batch, roasted fresh Whole Bean

Juniper Highlands Ethiopia is Burl & Brew’s tribute to the high‑elevation forests of Gedeb, where wild juniper trees grow alongside some of the world’s most expressive coffees. This single‑farm natural from Shitaye Abebe captures that same sense of altitude, clarity, and aromatic depth — a cup that feels both vibrant and grounded.

Grown at ~2200 meters and processed naturally at the Chelbesa Danche site, this lot delivers a remarkably clean profile for a dry‑process Ethiopian coffee. Roasted by Burl & Brew to a Medium / Full City level, Juniper Highlands Ethiopia balances bright berry character with deeper cocoa‑rich sweetness. Each bag is half a pound and freshly roasted.

Flavor Notes

A cup that opens with lively fruit and settles into warm, bittersweet depth.

  • Fruit: Plum, dried pineapple, cranberry, raspberry tea, berry jam

  • Sweetness: Panela, demerara, turbinado, mixed fruit jams

  • Aromatics: Blueberry cobbler, citrus peel, sweet herbs, fragrant pie spices

  • Finish: Dark cocoa, cacao nibs, dried apricot, gentle bitter spice

Expect a harmony of juicy berry acidity, structured sweetness, and a long cocoa finish that echoes the warmth of its roast.

Origin & Producer

Juniper Highlands Ethiopia comes from Shitaye Abebe, a rare single‑farm producer in Chelchele, Gedeb — a region where most farmers deliver small harvests to centralized mills. His farm cultivates JARC 74110 and 74112 varieties, heirloom selections known for exceptional cup quality.

The coffee is processed at the Chelbesa Danche site by SNAP Specialty Coffee, whose meticulous natural processing produces some of Ethiopia’s cleanest and most fruit‑forward Grade 1 lots.

Roast Profile – Burl & Brew

Medium / Full City Roast

This roast level was chosen to highlight the coffee’s natural fruit complexity while developing deeper sugars and chocolate tones.

Expect:

  • A rounder, fuller body

  • Reduced tanginess compared to lighter roasts

  • Enhanced sweetness

  • A finish leaning into dark chocolate and dried fruit

Juniper Highlands Ethiopia is crafted to be both expressive and comforting — a bridge between bright natural Ethiopian character and classic, cocoa‑forward depth.
